At the time I posted this, Blogspot had a glitch that is putting all the links in the left margin down at the very bottom of the page. Hopefully they'll have it fixed by the time you read this.

TROPICAL STORMS -

* In the Atlantic Ocean -
Tropical depression Nine is located about 140 mi (220 km) SE of Praia, Cape Verde Islands. Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the southern Cape Verde Islands of Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava. The depression is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches across the southern Cape Verde Islands, with isolated maximum amounts of 8 inches possible, especially in areas of mountainous terrain. The depression is forecast to become a tropical storm later this morning.

Tropical Depression #9 formed in the far eastern Atlantic. Maximum winds are 30 mph but it is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Humberto by Monday. It is forecasted to become the first Atlantic hurricane of the season on Wednesday. If it does, it will tie the record for the latest forming first hurricane of the season. The forecast track curves the storm northward around the Cape Verde islands, where there are already tropical storm warnings up. The storm will stay far away from Florida (3,000 miles), and not effect their weather at all.

+ It started out as a RARE Tropical Cyclone-Free September 8th for earth, without a tropical depression, tropical storm, hurricane, or typhoon in the Atlantic, Pacific, or Indian Ocean.

EXTREME HEAT & DROUGHT / WILDFIRES -

Thailand - Drought fears over low water levels. Low levels in many reservoirs nationwide risk fuelling water shortages in the next dry season, the BUREAU OF ROYAL RAINMAKING AND AGRICULTURAL AVIATION says.
Many parts of Thailand, particularly the Northeast, are still suffering from drought, though rains have been reported. When the weather is suitable, the bureau will carry out rainmaking upstream from reservoirs to increase water levels to try to ensure adequate supplies for the next dry season. People in many northeastern provinces have called on the authorities to arrange rainmaking every day. The bureau is now focusing on rainmaking near rice fields.

Amid drought, oil industry water usage a hot topic - Water usage by the oil and gas industry has drawn the attention of just about everyone in Texas, especially because of the lack of rain during the last three years.
